Things certainly kick off for us over the summer months.  While our fat sheep doze quietly under the apple trees, the bees buzz industriously around their respective West Dorset sites and we dart about after them catching swarms, splitting or moving hives and collecting honey.

Last month, having reached our wits’ end with the birds gorging themselves on our home grown treats, we made a large fruit and veg cage from recycled steel and locally made net. The plants are looking altogether better and we can’t wait for harvest!

I’ve managed to get a few more bee friendly plants in the ground and while wandering through the orchard admiring my efforts this weekend, I stumbled upon a few lovely wild orchids. These made topping a laborious job for Mark, who then had to keep a good look out and avoid any more, but fab to see these little beauties on our doorstep!
